Aida, Rigoletto, Don Carlos, Falstaff, Macbeth and Otello are all memorable oft listened to and performed all the time to the delight of all opera fans. Verdi was, unlike his contemporary Richard Wagner, concerned with the development of the forms of romantic opera that he inherited from his predecessors like Bellini, Donizetti and Rossini, rather than to change them. Verdi’s early works demonstrated a sympathy with the unification of Italy, better known as the Risorgimento movement. the many choruses in his works, both early and later, were much in the spirit of the unification movement.
